Everything works 2010-09-07 No too pleased with the manual but the equipment works perfectly and the four function buttons make life very easy. I'm not sure I want to select a program when this option is offered. It is a Canon product so just let there be a Canon default program to do the job unless otherwise selected.
Canon Lide 700 and windows 7 64 bit 2010-09-01 As other reviewers have stated the scanner is light and compact but this comes at the expense of build quality. The negative carrier is not very robust and difficult to handle in use. However the hardware performs well and is good value for money. The big downside is if you use Windows 7 64 bit as the provided software is not fully functional. Unfortunately, as I have found before,Canon Support is not up to the job of resolving the problems. They do not seem to be knowledgable and try to pass off the problem to any one else. They naively suggest contacting Microsoft for assitance - some hope!
Nice scanner - shame about the negative holder 2010-08-29 Only had this for a few days but generally impressed. That is apart from the method of scanning negatives, which is primitive. The film just lays loosely in the holder, when in other makes it is held firmly. You have to scan one frame at a time - the Epson equivalent can recognise frames, so once set up you can leave it. Still you do get used to it and after 40 negatives I have now got it down to a fine art - the resulting images are wortth the effort. Luckily I did my slides on the old Epson so don't have that to worry about. Unit is very light and really appreciate USB power supply. Recommended unless you hsve slides to scan.
at last she's happy 2010-08-26 Bought this after 'er indoors' did all the research to find out which one she wanted. Then got dragged to the shop only to find she didn't want it after all, so went home and found the 700 lide on line. Suddenly she's happy, so so am I. Easy to set up, and easy to use, no problems with the software that others report. Have yet to try it with negitives, as she's nicked it for her work stuff, but so far there's not one complaint. Still fiddling with the settings, so we get exactly what we want from each document/pic. Over all I rate it highly, especially the plastic negitive holder. So much better than the paper one offered by it's rivals. Think it's a shame that it's not better advertised or available in shops, as I think it's the better of the photo scanners offered by canon, but so few people have heard of it.
Excellent product 2010-08-10 So pleased with this piece of kit - no wires (apart from USB. Simple set up & ready to go. Slim compact takes little room up.
